South Bend Small Scale Development Lecture

  • St Joseph County Public Library 304 Southeast Main Street South Bend, IN 46601 United States (map)

Come learn about the Small Scale Development Movement!
Are you interested in learning more about how you could become a small real estate developer for a project in your neighborhood? Are you an advocate or local leader looking to encourage better buildings in your community?

We invite you to join us September 6th to learn how you can become an implementer of the development projects that are missing in your community. Despite their value to a neighborhood streetscape and a city’s bottom line, small buildings are not the easiest development projects to get financed and approved, especially for the novice.
John Anderson is a principal at Anderson|Kim and founding member of Incdev Alliance. With over 30 years in the development industry, in construction, urban design, and finance, Anderson has identified pathways of least resistance to get a building from concept to reality. Anderson will explore financial tools and design parameters that underlie how to implement middle scale buildings in regular neighborhoods.
His experience has revealed to him the landmines and opportunities within existing building code, mortgage policy, and zoning practice. Through the years, Anderson has developed what he believes to be a no-brainer for the aspiring small developer: the Form Follows Finance Fourplex. Most importantly, Anderson’s understanding of great urban places ensures that his recommendations for small developers translate into buildings that act as good neighbors.
